Although Ospreys were beaten by Racing 92 in Round 3, Booth believes there were plenty of positives to be take from that game.

He urged his team to approach the Sale clash at AJ Bell Stadium – their final game in Pool A – with a similar attitude.

“Great effort, intensity, a very significant improvement defensively from the week before,” he told the Welsh region’s website.

“We need to maintain that sort of standards, and against the very best you need to make sure that you cash in when you are in front because you know that it is very difficult if you don't, and good sides will have enough quality to make you pay.

“When we couldn't maintain good possession and get out of our half in the middle of the second half, we paid the ultimate price.”

When the two sides met in Round 1, Ospreys lost 21-13 at Swansea.com Stadium, but Booth insisted that there were no surprises from Sale.

“They are big and strong; there's lots of South African accents; they enjoy the collision and attack the breakdown,” he recalled.

“Nothing that I didn't know already from my time in England. We know that they pride themselves in being very efficient in how they play and you need to be very good in the set-piece and in breakdown situations.”
