The 21-year-old, whose father Bryan won 60 Scotland caps, is one of 14 players from Heineken Champions Cup teams in Gregor Townsend’s line-up for the 150th Calcutta Cup clash.

“It’s always a pleasure to welcome a new player into our squad and we are looking forward to Cam Redpath winning his first cap on Saturday,” said the Scotland head coach.

“We have been really impressed with Cam’s contributions in the time he has been with us in camp. There are a number of experienced players in the backline to help make his transition to Test rugby go as smoothly as possible, and he has the mindset and skillset to thrive at this level.”

Redpath is one of four players from England’s Gallagher Premiership in the Scotland starting XV. The others are Exeter Chiefs full-back Stuart Hogg, who will captain the side, and lock Jonny Gray, plus Gloucester Rugby centre Chris Harris.

Racing 92 fly-half Finn Russell is recalled to the team after missing the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup through injury, but otherwise the Scotland XV is dominated by Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors players, with the former boasting four and the latter five.

Redpath will be up against two of his clubmates in wing Anthony Watson and prop Will Stuart, who makes his first Six Nations start for England, while Hogg and Gray also face two clubmates in centre Henry Slade and lock Jonny Hill. Harris encounters one in wing Jonny May.

Bath Rugby centre Cameron Redpath will make his debut for Scotland in their Guinness Six Nations Championship opener against England at Twickenham on Saturday.
