Olly Barklay got right back into the goal-kicking groove as he notched 19 points to steer Bath to a second successive win in Pool 5.

With an England place in the autumn international up for the grabs, the Bath ace did his chances a power of good of returning to the England fold by kicking five penalties and converting two tries.

Bourgoin arrived on the back of a morale-boosting win over Glasgow in Round 1 and were seeking to end a run of eight successive away defeats in the Heineken Cup.

The gave Bath a torrid time for an hour, but conceded 23 points in the final twenty minutes as the home side turned up the heat.

It was the competing boots of Bourgoin fullback Alexandre Peclier and Barklay which dominated the first half. They each hit the mark three times before Barkley converted a 40th minutes by home skipper Steve Borthwick that gave Bath a 16-9 interval lead.

A penalty from the boot of outside half Benjamin Boyet 12 minutes into the second half brought Bourgoin back to within four points and it was still anyone's game at that stage.

Barklay responded with his fourth penalty after 66 minutes before the game swing dramatically in Bath's favour with ten minutes to go.

Bourgoin scampered into the home 22 and Bath fullback Lee Best had to come to the rescue by fielding the ball on his line. More than that, he managed to drive on ten metres and set up an audacious counter attack that lead to a try by Matt Stevens at the other end after some superb contributions from Ryan Davies and James Scaysbrook.

That score inspired a rousing finish from Bath as they sniffed the chance of bagging a bonus point.

Barklay kicked his fifth penalty from near half way to stretch the lead before James Hudson and Danny Grewcock charged over for tries which turned what had been a tight game only twenty minutes earlier in to a five-point route for Bath.
