Tadhg Beirne’s try for Munster Rugby at Stade Toulousain in Round 4 of the Heineken Champions Cup last Sunday has been named as the Champions Try of the Round.

The lock crashed over in the second half as Munster fell just short at the Stade Ernest Wallon, though the sensational team move to create his score was a standout moment for the Irish province in their 20-16 defeat.

Beirne’s effort received a staggering 80% of the fans’ vote and was also the first pick of ITV presenter Hugh Woozencroft.

“This try incorporated so many thrilling aspects; power, skill, jeopardy. And it was scored away from home against high-class opposition in the shape of Stade Toulousain,” Woozencroft said. “A true team try of real quality.”

Beirne’s try beat some stunning scores from Lukhanyo Am (Cell C Sharks), Alex Dombrandt (Harlequins) and Tom James (Northampton Saints).
