We’re at the halfway point in the EPCR Challenge Cup pool stage, and there have been some superb individual performances across the two rounds. Today we take a look at the leading scorers in the competition so far…

Points – Sam Costelow (29)

Scarlets fly-half Sam Costelow leads the way when it comes to points, racking up 29 as the Welsh region have picked up two bonus-point wins.

The 21-year-old has kicked 10 conversions and three penalties in victories over Aviron Bayonnais (39-7) and Toyota Cheetahs (45-26).

Costelow is the first of five Welsh internationals at the top of the points-scoring charts, ahead of Dragons RFC fly-half Sam Davies (25), Scarlets wing Steff Evans (15) and Cardiff Rugby duo Josh Adams (15) and Rhys Priestland (15).

Tries – Steff Evans, Josh Adam (3)

Evans and Adams are the early frontrunners when it comes to tries, with both crossing three times in the first two rounds to hit their tallies of 15 points.

Evans opened his account in Scarlets’ win over Bayonne before crossing twice inside 20 minutes in their success at Toyota Cheetahs.

Adams crossed in Cardiff’s 41-0 opening round thrashing of CA Brive before dotting down in either half as they cruised to a 47-10 win at Newcastle Falcons.

No other player has managed three tries yet, but Rhyno Smith (Benetton Rugby), Kevin Fabien (CA Brive), Gaël Dréan (RC Toulon), Kristian Dacey (Cardiff) and Quan Horn (Emirates Lions) all went over twice in their solitary appearances.

Goalkicking % – Sam Costelow (92.86%)

Costelow also has the most accurate kicking at the midway point in the pool stage, missing just once – an early conversion against Bayonne – from 14 attempts. No player has bettered his 92.86% success rate from five or more kicks.

Davies has also missed from the tee just once, slotting eight from nine for an 88.9% success rate, which sees him second in the statistic.

Bristol Bears fly-half AJ MacGinty is third with 87.5% – the only other player to manage more than 85% – after he dispatched seven of his eight kicks in wins over USAP (19-5) and Zebre Parma (35-19).
