Munster Rugby lock RG Snyman’s wait for his Heineken Champions Cup debut is set to continue after he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury which is expected to rule him out until the end of December.

The 27-year-old, who won the World Cup with South Africa in 2019, is still to feature in EPCR competitions after an injury-hit start to his Munster career.

Former Vodacom Bull Snyman joined the Irish province from Japanese outfit Mie Honda Heat in 2020 but has seen his appearances limited by two cruciate injuries.

An update from Munster said he “is not expected to be available for selection before the end of December”.

That timeframe leaves Snyman a major doubt for Munster’s opening two Heineken Champions Cup Pool B games – at home to Stade Toulousain on December 11 and at Northampton Saints a week later.

Head coach Graham Rowntree will hope to have Snyman back for Northampton’s visit to Thomond Park in Round 3 on January 14.
