The former Scotland scrum-half, who spent the 2012-13 season with the French club, wants to see if his side have learned their lessons from last weekend’s last-gasp 21-20 defeat at London Irish and to attract a large crowd to the game.

“We were obviously frustrated with last weekend’s loss to London Irish,” he said. “However, after a good week of training you can feel the buzz around the squad to get a reaction and we’re really excited to be back in front of our home support at DAM Health Stadium this Friday night.

“We’ve made a number of changes to the squad and we’re excited to see those guys get their chance. We’ve spoken this week about physicality and speed of thought but also around engaging our supporters by imposing our game on Brive.

“We’re really keen to get a big crowd in and get them behind us again. For us, it’s important we build on what happened at the weekend and learn our lessons. We’re really keen to get back out in front of a really big crowd at the DAM Health and show what we can do.”
