An independent Disciplinary Committee has found Danny Grewcock, the Bath Rugby lock, guilty of striking an opponent in the European Challenge Cup final on Saturday, 19 May, 2007.

The independent Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Professor Lorne Crerar (Scotland) and also comprising Dr Barry O’Driscoll (Ireland) and Richard McGhee (Scotland), found Mr Grewcock guilty of striking the ASM Clermont Auvergne No 5 Thibault Privat in contravention of Law 10.4 (a).

Law 10.4 (a) – Punching or striking: A player must not strike an opponent with the fist or arm, including the elbow, shoulder, head or knee(s).

The Committee suspended Mr Grewcock from the start of next season, Saturday, 4 August, 2007, up to and including Saturday, 15 September, 2007.

The citing was lodged by the Citing Commissioner for the match, Achille Reali (Italy). The Committee convened on Friday, 8 June and communicated their decision to both parties today Monday, 11 June.

Both parties have the right to appeal.
