They are the hottest tickets in town – and Leicester Tigers and London Wasps will each have at least 9,500 Heineken Cup final tickets for sale to their fans later this week.

These are the only remaining tickets for the first all-England showdown in European club rugby’s showpiece occasion, the 12th Heineken Cup final being played at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday, 20 May (kick-off 14.30).

Tickets for the European showpiece final went on sale in May 2006, 12 months ahead of the final, and the public allocation of 56,000 was snapped up in record time.

Of the redeveloped Twickenham Stadium’s increased capacity of 82,000 already 63,000 tickets – 56,000 through public sale and 7,000 allocated to ERC’s European rugby stakeholders, to include ERC’s family of partners and to official corporate hospitality – are accounted for at the climax of the European club rugby season.

And with the finalists sharing those remaining 19,000 tickets, a full stadium is the target with the current tournament record of 74,600 who were at the Millennium Stadium in 2002 when Leicester Tigers beat Munster set to be shattered.

“We announced Twickenham as the final venue in May 2006 prior to last season’s final and immediately there was a huge response from fans wanting to be part of the occasion,” said ERC Chief Executive, Derek McGrath.

“Our aim each year is to create the best possible showcase event for the tournament, the two teams, supporters, partners and for our broadcasters who will beam the game across the globe. With this aim we promote the game for 12 months with the target of the bumper crowd and the best possible atmosphere.

“The Heineken Cup final has now become a must see sports event with fans from all over Europe enjoying the unique experience. With two great teams through to Twickenham and the first all-England clash, we can look forward to another memorable Heineken Cup final weekend, both on and off the field,” added McGrath.

Heineken Cup final tickets are priced at £25, £35, £50 and £60. The 19,200 remaining tickets will be distributed through Leicester Tigers and London Wasps to supporters.
