Julien Pierre, the Bourgoin second row forward, appeared before an independent Disciplinary Committee in Dublin today (Wednesday, 24 January, 2007) as a result of a citing arising from the Round 5 Heineken Cup Pool 4 match against Munster at Stade de Geneve, Switzerland, on Sunday, 14 January.

The citing lodged by the Citing Commissioner for the match, Matt Bayliss (England), was for alleged dangerous play in a ruck – contravention of Law 10.4 (i).

At the hearing the Disciplinary Committee amended the citing so that it also included alleged striking with the knee – contravention of Law 10.4 (a).

The independent Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Professor Lorne Crerar (Scotland) and also comprising Aurwell Morgan (Wales) and Peter Brown (Scotland), found that the player had committed an act of foul play and upheld the citing complaint. However, the Disciplinary Committee found that the act of foul play would not have warranted a red card and imposed no suspension on the player.

Both parties have the right to appeal.

Law 10.4 (a) – Punching or striking
Law 10.4 (i) – Dangerous play in a ruck.
