Leicester coach Pat Howard believes his side may just have had the outstanding result you need to win the Heineken Cup by becoming the first team to win at Thomond Park in the tournament…

Munster’s proud record fell to the two-time former winners thanks to an outstanding forward effort and a defensive display Howard hailed as the best during his time at the club.

.. “To win the Heineken Cup you need one outstanding away performance,” said Howard, after the 13-6 victory.

“Llanelli’s win in Toulouse was a fantastic performance and we have shown we are capable of producing a very big away performance as well.

“Thomond Park is a place of great emotion and passion, the crowd are fantastic, but it is a difficult place but not impossible – obviously.

“We have got a lot of spirit about us, but one game does not make our season – we know there are another three games to go if we want to be at the top of this competition.

“The players deserve an amazing amount of credit for the intensity and belief they have shown in the last five or six games.

“We were up against it for the last five or ten minutes but our defence held – it was the best defence I have seen in my time at the club.”
