Dragons director of rugby Dean Ryan hopes his side can learn from their past few seasons in EPCR competitions as they gear up for their EPCR Challenge Cup clashes with Wasps and Section Paloise next season.

The Welsh region failed to pick up a win in last season’s Challenge Cup following a Covid-hit Heineken Champions Cup campaign in 2020/21, which saw them exit in the Round of 16.

However, Ryan believes his team have developed during that time and that they will head into their Pool B games in December full of confidence.

“We’ve learnt a lot from our European experiences in recent seasons and it’s always interesting to see who you get paired with in the pool stage,” he told Dragons’ website.

“Wasps are a talented and powerful side who we know well from the [Heineken] Champions Cup fixture in 2020. We’ve already agreed a friendly fixture with them at Rodney Parade in September, so the draw certainly adds an extra dimension to that game.

“Pau are a traditional French side and former winners of the Challenge Cup, so they’ll provide a stern test over two games and a big challenge that we will all look forward to.”
