Fly-half Brett Herron was in imperious form for Biarritz Olympique as the European Rugby Challenge Cup contenders beat 2020 Heineken Champions Cup runners-up Racing 92 28-19 in the TOP 14 on Saturday.

The Englishman, who recently joined the 2012 Challenge Cup winners from Harlequins, contributed 23 points with his boot, including seven penalties in the victory.

Hooker Lucas Peyresblanques scored the hosts’ only try of the contest as Biarritz moved up to fifth place in the table.

Elsewhere, 1997 Heineken Cup winners CA Brive produced a four-try display to defeat 2000 Challenge Cup victors Pau 30-13. Fly-half Enzo Hervé was the star of the show, scoring a first-half try in addition to 10 points via goal-kicks.

Back-row forward So’otala Fa’aso’o, wing Axel Müller Aranda and centre Wesley Douglas also crossed the whitewash for Brive in a scintillating first-half performance, after which they led 27-13.

Lyon, meanwhile, scored seven tries in their 47-3 rout of fellow European Rugby Challenge Cup contenders USAP.

Prop Demba Bamba, centres Charlie Ngatai and Pierre-Louis Barassi, fly-half Léo Berdeu, scrum-half Baptiste Couilloud, wing Toby Arnold and replacement hooker Mickaël Ivaldi all touched down in the victory.

In the Gallagher Premiership, Worcester Warriors chalked up five tries in their 36-24 victory over London Irish at Sixways Stadium.

Flanker Sam Lewis, scrum-half Willi Heinz, full-back Melani Nanai, No.8 Matt Kvesic and wing Perry Humphreys all got in on the try-scoring action, while fly-half Owen Williams added 11 points with the boot.

In response, Irish replacement Oliver Hoskins scored a brace of tries in the second half, after wing Ollie Hassell-Collins and back-row forward Albert Tuisue had touched down for the visitors.
