The first Fantasy Match-up pitted the triple European champions of RC Toulon between 2013 and 2015 against the mighty Leinster Rugby side from 2009-2012, with the Irish province coming out on top.

Leinster will be joined in the semi-final by Munster Rugby’s side from 2006-2008, who defeated fellow double European Cup winners in Leicester Tigers in 2001 and 2002.

Exeter Chiefs’ 2020 winners face Wasps’ 2004-07 side, with the winner taking on Toulouse’s famous team from 1996.

We have picked out a handful of Wasps’ leading lights below:

Lawrence Dallaglio

Dallaglio captained Wasps to both their Heineken Cup successes, in 2004 and 2007, his power from the back of the scrum enabling the English club to enjoy a purple patch at the top of the European game. A one-club player, he made 53 of his 61 European appearances in the elite tournament and scored eight tries.

Trevor Leota

Leota was an ever-present as Wasps won the first of their two Heineken Cups in 2004 and scored a famous last-gasp try to secure a 37-32 win against Munster Rugby in the semi-finals. He then helped Wasps defeat Toulouse 27-20 in the final. The New Zealander may have made only 30 Heineken Cup appearances, but he was a cornerstone of the Wasps pack in that time.

Eoin Reddan

Although Reddan was given his European Cup bow by Munster in 2003, it was at Wasps where he made his competition mark, scoring this opening try in the 2007 final as they defeated Leicester Tigers 25-9 at Twickenham. 2011 and 2012 also provided further European glory for Reddan, but with Leinster in their final successes over Northampton Saints and Ulster Rugby respectively.

Alex King

The hero of the 2007 final, fly-half Alex King actually missed two conversions but made up for it with four successful penalty kicks from four as Wasps defeated Toulouse to earn a second European crown. H He also kicked an important drop goal as Wasps proved too strong for their French opposition in front of 81,000 fans at Twickenham.
