EPCR’s social media channels will fall silent during the semi-final weekend in the Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup in support of BT Sport’s “Draw the Line” campaign, which stands against hate speech and abuse on social media.

No content will be posted through until 23.59 (UK and Irish time) on Monday 3 May as a range of sporting bodies come together to raise awareness of discrimination and abuse on social media channels and to advocate change.

“Hate speech is unacceptable in any walk of life and it is vital to be united in looking to create a safer online society,” said EPCR Chief Executive Officer Vincent Gaillard. “We hope that by standing together with other sporting entities in refusing to condone discriminatory content online, we can leverage the power of sport and orchestrate significant change.”

BT’s campaign will put the issue into the spotlight across BT Sport channels for the remainder of the season and also sees the implementation of an Anti Online Abuse Policy. BT will proactively respond, delete, block or report hate and abuse to ensure its own social channels are safer spaces for their communities.
