With European Finals Weekend fast approaching, the city of Marseille is organising a major event for the world of rugby on Sunday.
Marseille is counting down the days before the Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup Finals on May 22 and 23 at the Stade Vélodrome, which will round off a superb season in Europe’s club competitions, and there is a special celebration this weekend.
Since January 2017, the “Dimanches de la Canebière” (Sundays of the Canebière) have been offering Marseille’s residents and visitors alike the opportunity to get together every last Sunday of the month to enjoy a wide range of activities.
This cultural event allows you to discover the city’s rich historical and architectural heritage through urban walks.
From 10am to 5pm, on the bottom of the Canebière, an artificial rugby pitch will be set up. In addition, sports animators will walk around to introduce the public to the ball as they attempt to score a try between the posts. A photo module will also be available and many prizes will be up for grabs.
Up to 100,000 spectators are expected in Marseille in May for European Finals Weekend, which will celebrate the 25th anniversary season of the European Cup in a spectacular way.
