“We’ve just finished the first phase,” pointed out the French club’s director of rugby. “We came first in the pool stage, which is positive. I think the players knew how to achieve that, even if it wasn’t easy. We had the chance to finish first, but we had to work hard to get there.

“I’m happy, but the quarter-finals are in April, so we have time to think about them.”

Toulon face a third match-up of the season against Scarlets in the last eight and they have won both meetings so far, including a 17-16 victory in Round 2 at Stade Felix Mayol, where the quarter-final will take place.

However, Collazo was cautious about his side’s chances of completing the hat-trick, with Toulon having only secured that November win via an Anthony Belleau conversion off a post in the 10th minute of added time.

“I think we’ll need to prepare ourselves to be alert from the first minute,” said the Toulon boss. “They are a team composed of numerous internationals and we can be certain they are going to prepare accordingly for their trip to Mayol.

“They will be excellent opponents. I wouldn’t say it was a good draw, rather a big one.”
