Heineken Champions Cup side La Rochelle and European Rugby Challenge Cup team Scarlets were quick to tweet their congratulations at the weekend to Ronan O’Gara and Brad Mooar respectively, after the pair celebrated more Super Rugby success with Crusaders.

O’Gara, the all-time record points-scorer in the European Cup with 1,365 for Munster Rugby between 1997 and 2013, is due at La Rochelle this week as head coach, following two Super Rugby title-winning campaigns as part of the New Zealand franchise’s coaching team.

Meanwhile, Mooar takes over as head coach at Scarlets this summer after four seasons as assistant coach to Crusaders, the last three of which have ended with the Super Rugby trophy in their cabinet.

The Welsh region tweeted: “Congratulations Brad Mooar & @crusadersrugby on another @SuperRugby triumph. Looking forward to welcoming Brad to West Wales in a few weeks’ time.”

La Rochelle tweeted: “Congratulations to our future coach @RonanOGara10 who has just won the Super Rugby [title] with @crusadersrugby.”

O’Gara, a double European Cup winner with Munster in 2006 and 2008, will be pitting his wits against Exeter Chiefs, Glasgow Warriors and Sale Sharks in Pool 2 of the Heineken Champions Cup. He was one of Racing 92’s coaches between 2013 and 2017.

Mooar will have his first taste of European rugby in Pool 2 of the Challenge Cup alongside RC Toulon, Bayonne and London Irish.
