Sale Sharks utility back Sam James has called for another “80-minute performance” from the English club in their crucial European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool 3 game at Connacht Rugby on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, who will start at centre at The Sportsground, wants a repeat of their superb display in downing two-times Champions Cup winners Saracens 24-18 in the Gallagher Premiership at the AJ Bell Stadium last week.

He realises that if Sale were to complete the double over Connacht after beating them 34-13 in Round 2 in October, it would stand them in great stead for qualifying for the quarter-finals, as they currently lead Pool 3 by three points from Connacht.

He told the Sale Sharks Twitter feed: “We had been working on that performance [against Saracens] and on performances for 80 minutes, and I’m hoping that we can carry that form into a new tournament.

“It’s a big one for us. If we win at the weekend, we will get a nice home quarter-final. We just want to carry on that momentum. No matter what competition it is in, we’re looking for that whole performance.”

Sale have won their last three games and four of their last five. Their last pool match is at home to Perpignan a week on Saturday.
