Sale Sharks wing Chris Ashton will make his first England start in over four years on Saturday when they host New Zealand at Twickenham.

Ashton has been selected after a stunning return to European competition last month, scoring a hat-trick of tries in Sale’s 34-13 home win over Connacht Rugby in Challenge Cup Round 2.

The 31-year-old has a superb European record with 49 tries in 69 appearances for Northampton Saints, Saracens, RC Toulon and Sale.

They include a record-breaking 39 in the European Cup and 11 tries in nine matches during a remarkable 2013-14 campaign for Saracens, with whom he won the Champions Cup in 2016 and 2017.

Worcester Warriors centre Ben Te’o keeps his place in the side and will win his 15th cap for England, while Northampton Saints hooker Dylan Hartley will co-captain the team on his 95th appearance.

Harlequins scrum-half Danny Care is the sole Challenge Cup representative in the England replacements.
