Having finished runners-up in the TOP 14 last season, Montpellier will be relying largely on a tried and trusted squad for their 2018/19 Heineken Champions Cup campaign, which opens with Pool 3 matches against Edinburgh Rugby, Newcastle Falcons and RC Toulon.

Here we look at three of their new signings:

Julien Le Devedec
Montpellier is the 32-year-old forward’s fourth French club, following two spells with Brive and one each with Toulouse and Bordeaux-Bègles.

The former France lock or No.8 made his European debut in the European Cup with Toulouse in 2005, but 23 of his 28 European appearances have been in the Challenge Cup.

Levan Chilachava
The 26-year-old Georgia prop is a European Cup winner, having lifted the trophy with RC Toulon in 2015, when he was a member of the squad who completed the historic hat-trick.

Chilachava joins from RC Toulon, for whom he made 22 European appearances between 2011 and 2017, including 21 in the European Cup.

Julien Tomas
The 33-year-old scrum-half returns to the club where he first made his name, after spells with Castres Olympique, Stade Français Paris and Pau.

Tomas, who won the European Shield with Montpellier in 2004, brings a wealth of European experience with him, having played a total of 54 matches in both competitions and scored nine tries.
