Bath clinched victory in the early top of the table clash against Newport Gwent Dragons though the pool remains wide open after two rounds.

Mathew Gilbert's try against 14-man Dragons, who had back-row Lewis Evans in the sin bin, sealed a 26-10 win at The Recreation Ground for Bath.

However it was the boot of Tom Heathcote that proved just as decisive with 16 points after British Lion Toby Faletau cancelled out Rich Lane's earlier try.

A second win of the campaign has Bath three points ahead of their rivals however their failure to pick up a bonus point in either game has left the door open heading into round three.

Lyn Jones' ever-improving Dragons remain second on try-count ahead of Bordeaux-Begles who they face next in what will be decisive back-to-back games for both teams in the following rounds.

Bordeaux shook off their home defeat to Bath to beat Rugby Mogliano 32-20.

Robert Lilomaiava and Matthew Graham both scored for the French club, who also claimed a penalty try, though it was not until the 77th-minute that full-back Romain Lonca clinched the bonus point, lifting them back into contention for the pool.

Mogliano showed they had recovered for their heavy defeat at Newport while lively wing Tommaso Boni showed his attacking threat to Bath in the next round when he scored for the game in a row.
