Terry Fanolua has opted not to take up the final year of his contract next season with European Challenge Cup quarter-finalists Gloucester Rugby.

The former Samoan international will leave the Kingsholm club at the end of the season following nine years service in the Heineken Cup and the European Challenge Cup, after agreeing with head coach Dean Ryan he would not see out the final year of his current deal.

Since Fanolua (31) joined Gloucester in 1997 and has represented the club 48 times at European club level and accumulated 125 points between the Heineken Cup and the European Challenge Cup.

In search of their first European trophy, Gloucester will take on Brive in the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup, kicking off on Saturday 1 April at 15:00.
