Cardiff Blues and Wales Grand Slam hero Tom Shanklin is set to play his first game for 10 months when the Blues face Worcester Warriors on Saturday.

The Wales centre suffered a serious knee injury on the 2005 Lions’ tour to New Zealand, which saw him return early and threatened to end the 26-year-old’s playing career.

After ten months of treatment and recuperation, Blues fans will be delighted to see Shanklin named in their side’s 31 man squad for their pre-season friendly match at Cardiff Arms Park this Saturday.

Shanklin, who has 14 Heineken Cup caps and 5 tries to his name, will be a major boost to the Dai Young’s side as they chart their way through Pool 4 of the Heineken Cup, which includes reigning champions Munster, double winners Leicester Tigers and Bourgoin.

Cardiff will play their first Heineken Cup game away to Bourgoin on Saturday, 21 October.
