Nick Abendanon may have finished on the losing side for a second time in the Champions Cup in Edinburgh last weekend, but his second half try for ASM Clermont Auvergne has been named as the Try of the Season.

Former European Cup winner Raphaël Ibañez ranked the 11 tries in order and his list was combined with a public vote to determine the final ranking. While Ibañez picked out Connacht Rugby wing Niyi Adeolokun’s Round 1 try against Toulouse as his favourite, he had Abendanon’s try in second place.

“For the best try, it was a really difficult choice between Clermont’s 100-metre score in the Champions Cup final and the Connacht try. In the end, I felt that the Connacht try was probably a better example of total rugby,” said Ibañez.
